If you are considering this particular tehnique, and it has been
determined that you qualify for the surgery, you will be contacted
to make an appointment. During the office visit, your medical
history will be reviewed, pertinent information will be discussed,
and a physical examination will tailor the preoperative orders
according to your individual needs. A very important part of this
face-to-face interview is the assessment of your understanding
of the requirements and restrictions that the surgery imposes
in terms of lifestyle, behavioral modifications, and commitment
to make the surgery successful. The need for patient compliance
is thoroughly emphasized. Expectations are discussed and put into
a realistic perspective. Following the office visit, a letter
of medical necessity will be sent to your insurance company.
All of the preoperative assessment, admission process, and testing
is done on an outpatient basis. Out of town patients are encouraged
to bring tests ordered by their physicians and it is possible
to use studies done within a reasonable period of time, to reduce
costs. These patients are usually scheduled to have preoperative
testing the morning of the seminar and the surgery is performed
the following day.
