After the surgery, you will stay in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit usually one hour, and then be transferred to a regular hospital room. The need for intensive care is exceptional. Upon arrival to the ward, the nurse will discontinue the I.V. fluids, initiate oral intake, assist in immediate ambulation, and help you to the bathroom for frequent hot showers. You will not have a tube coming out of your nose, nor a catheter out of your bladder, drains, or dressings.

The majority of the patients are in condition to be discharged the morning after the surgery. The average length of hospital stay (LOS) is 1.2 days, including reoperations. We will give you oral and written instructions. Out-of-town patients stay in any nearby hotel until necessary before returning home. All patients are instructed to call our office for follow-up within a week of the surgery, weekly for a month, monthly thereafter. Our office nurses will schedule visits according to your needs and postoperative evolution. There are no charges for these visits.

Our registered nurses have a combined experience of more than 50 years. They will provide you not only in nursing care, but also behavioral modification instructions, dietary advice, and gentle coaching to lead you to compliance with the requirements imposed by the operation and the psychosocial changes experienced during the phase of weight loss and maintenance.
